Article from the LA Daily News :

Portraits capture pets' appeal

February 2006

BUSINESS NAME: Bungalow Art

BUSINESS ADDRESS: 20964 Colina Drive, Topanga

PHONE: (310) 455-7744

WEB SITE: www.bungalowart.com

OWNER: Robyn Feeley

ESTABLISHED: 2003

NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES: One

DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS: Fun and whimsical pastel pet portraits of your furry friends from your favorite photographs.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS? No

WHY DID YOU START THIS BUSINESS? During my first art show, I sold a dog portrait. My second sale that day was a commission for another dog portrait. The light bulb went on, and thus my pet portrait business began.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA? Watching the reactions of my guests and the request for their own pet portraits.

HOW LONG WAS IT FROM CONCEPT TO OPENING? Three months

WHAT DID YOU DO DURING THAT TIME? I developed my Web site, researched the local animal/pet market, created a body of work to sell at art shows and animal expos and advertised in local papers.

WHAT WERE YOUR STARTUP COSTS AND HOW DID YOU FINANCE THE BUSINESS? About $5,000 from personal finances.

WHO DID YOU RELY ON FOR ADVICE? Fellow artists and my dad.

WHAT HADN'T YOU CONSIDERED BEFORE OPENING? Logo design opportunities for pet-related businesses and the opportunity to work with animal rescue, and just how far the market spreads - all across the country.

WHAT IS YOUR EXPECTED REVENUE THIS YEAR? $35,000

WHAT GOALS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE COMPANY? To spend more time outside the Los Angeles and Southern California market, and to do workshops with children in a new art studio in Topanga. My first workshop will be working with California wildlife, and I'll have the children participate in the art, putting on and marketing a gallery show. I also want to donate a percentage of sales to the nature of Wildworks Animal Sanctuary.

Great Finds at Starpups Depot

August 2005

by Katie Burbank

"...Amidst all of the trinkets and red-carpet-worthy apparel are gorgeous portraits of beloved best buddies by Robyn Feeley of Bungalow Art. She creatively combines the elements of the abstract, contorted body frames of Pablo Picasso and the bright, bold colors often used by Matisse to create one-of-a-kind works of art. Among the beautiful caricatures strung along the walls lies the inspiration for Starpups, Stephanie's dog Scooby, who passed away last year. Scooby's spirit is definitely in the air and his playful side protrudes from the vast array of puppy pastime pieces offered at Starpups."

Article from the Post Tribune in Indiana:

Gary native will paint your pet¹s pawtrait

June 25, 2004

By Carolina Procter
Post-Tribune staff writer

Here¹s something for your mantel: A painted portrait of your pet.

Gary native Robyn Feeley paints Pet Pawtraits from her studio in Venice,
Calif. She¹ll be in Gary next month accepting commissions during the Miller
Beach Art Fair.

Give her a photo and a description of the animal¹s personality, and Feeley
will create a whimsical pastel painting that she guarantees will capture the
essence of the pet.

She¹ll paint any animal, from dogs to skunks to turtles. One client asked
her to paint his pet squirrel. She¹s also painted mountain lions, barn owls,
monkeys and giraffes.

³The family pet is one of the family,² Feeley said. ³(The portrait) is
something you can keep around forever.²

Prices start at $100 for a 10-by-10 inch portrait. Feeley has painted
portraits as large as 25-by-19. She usually completes a portrait in two to
three weeks. She donates part of her earnings to not-for-profit animal
organizations.

Feeley will show a dozen examples of her work at the art fair.

It helps if she can meet the subject, but it¹s not necessary. She¹s used to
working from photographs; studying the animal¹s eyes and chatting with its
owner usually does the job.

Feeley appeared on an episode of Animal Planet¹s ³That¹s My Baby,² where she
painted a Chinese Crested dog named Allie.

Visit Feeley¹s Web site, www.bungalowart.com/den.asp, to look at or buy Pet
Pawtraits.
